The theme for this year’s International Archives Week is ‘Archives Are You‘, providing an ideal opportunity to emphasize the importance of making sure our collections are more representative. Throughout history, women have made extraordinary contributions both here in Wales and across the World. But these contributions often went largely unrecorded, and the struggle for women to gain acceptance, recognition and equal rights in society has been a long and slow process.
Here at Archives Wales, we want to uncover Wales’ hidden women’s history. Click below to view our short film on women’s history in the archives.
We would love to see more material like this among the collections held by Wales’ archive services. What may seem insignificant to you – a poster or a flyer, a collection of old letters or a photograph – may be of great interest to us. So, if you think you have material that could be of interest, please get in touch with your local archive service, and let’s continue to piece together Wales’ hidden history.
